| Scott Katona, Band Director |
| Mr. Scott Katona is a well known musician and educator throughout the state. Mr. Katona is currently an active member of NJEA, NJAJE, MENC, ASJBDA, OCEA, JEA, ASBDA, and the Jackson School District music curriculum committee. He received his education at the Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz and Rowan University.
Mr. Katona has worked and played with jazz greats such as Denis DiBlasio, (Music Director with Maynard Ferguson Band) Dean Witten, (Drummer for the Frank Sinatra Band) George Rabbai, (Trumpet player for the Woody Herman Band) and many others. He has performed and recorded with artists Robert W. Smith, Maynard Ferguson, Louie Bellson, Byron Stripling, Allen Vizutti, James Moody, Diane Schurr, Jim Ward, Mike Davis, Bill Reichenbach, Roger Webster and many more. He has also rehearsed and played on the sound track with John Williams for Star Wars Episode I, The Phantom Menace. Currently, Mr. Katona also directs the Liberty percussion ensemble, brass ensemble and jazz band. He is also the co-advisor for the Tri-M Music Honor Society. |
| Michael Carattini, Assistant Band Director |
| Mr. Michael D. Carattini is a graduate of West Chester University in Pennsylvania where he received his Bachelor Degree in Music Education. As a clarinet major, he performed with various ensembles throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including a performance with the WCU Wind Ensemble at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and with the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank. He was also a drum major for the WCU Marching Band during their 2003 season.
Currently, Mr. Carattini directs the seventh and eighth grade bands at Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Jackson, New Jersey. He is an active member of NJEA, JEA, MENC, and ASIBDA. In addition to his concert bands and pep band at McAuliffe, Mr. Carattini also has the opportunity to work with the students at Jackson Liberty High School. At Liberty he directs the woodwind choir, pit orchestra and is the assistant band director for the marching band. |
| Margaret Harris, Color Guard Instructor |
| Ms. Margaret Harris is a graduate of Douglass College with a major in Spanish and French. She earned her Master's Degree from Georgian Court University in Instructional Technology.
Ms. Harris has been teaching for eighteen years, and has been a Color Guard Director for twelve. In addition to the Color Guard, Ms. Harris is also advisor to the French National Honour Society, Director of the Indoor Color Guard, and Coach to the Dance and Step Teams at Jackson Liberty. Ms. Harris is also the author of several childrens' books in French, Spanish and Italian. |
| Michael Mastropierro, Percussion Tech |
| Mr. Michael Mastropierro teaches general music at Central Regional Middle School in Bayville, NJ. In addition to all of his educational responsibilities, he loves to perform on a variety of instruments and also writes his own songs. Mr. Mastropierro looks forward to an exciting season with the Jackson Liberty Lion Marching Band. |
| Brian Catri, Visual Tech |
| Mr. Brian Catri is a graduate of Jackson Liberty High School and has been involved with music in the district for many years. He has marched with the Jackson Memorial High School Marching Band for two years and the Jackson Liberty High School Marching Band for two years. In addition to his high school music career, he has also marched with the Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps for two years. With the corps, he achieved third place in 2008. |
| Kerwin Capers, Percussion Tech |
| Mr. Kerwin Capers is a professional musician and drum tech with over thirty years of experience. Kerwin has worked with some of today's top musicians and recording artists. Known for his grove playing and his fusion chops, Kerwin is the MD and Minister of Music at his church in Elizabeth, NJ. A former student of the the Collective (formerly know as the Drummers Collective), Kerwin studied under the teachings of Frank Katz, which was an experience he will never forget. Kerwin's other passions in life include Martial Arts, in which he is a black belt in the art of Hwa Rang Do. He also trains and teaches in Union under Grand Master Ki Nam Yum, one of the Martial Arts world's greatly recognized martial arts masters. Kerwin is also the proud owner of Kerwin Capers Photography, a boutique photography studio that specializes in portrait photography. |
