A new fundraiser has begun with the support of Jersey Mike’s and Farley’s Ice Cream! Please click HERE to download the coupon for these businesses. A portion of your purchase will go directly to the Jackson Liberty Lion Band. The all-day event will be held on Monday, August 23rd, 2010. Please come out and support the band!

Mr. Katona could not find a company that could guarantee the delivery of grey marching band shoes in time for the start of the season. So, will be going with WHITE marching band shoes again this year. All incoming freshmen will need these shoes, along with upperclassmen that might have lost, grew out of their size or whose shoes are not presentable. If your white marching band shoes are presentable and you do not need to order new ones, please contact Marla Hageman before Tuesday.

Band camp starts tomorrow, August 16th, 2010 at 8:00AM in the band room. Don’t forget about all the important items you should bring with you. Please check out the band camp flyer for a list of suggested items. A change of clothes may not be a bad idea, just in case we get rained on. Band Camp is coming up very soon! We start on Monday, August 16th, 2010 at 8:00AM. We will meet in the band room before going to the field. Don’t forget all the supplies you need. Check out the band camp flyer for a list of suggested items to bring. Wear sneakers! No flip flops or sandals!

Please join the Jackson Liberty Band Parents for a meet and greet on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 6:30pm. The regularly scheduled band parents meeting will start promptly after this event. During the meet and greet you will receive two free gift raffles. So, please come out and meet other parents and learn more about the band!

Note PadIn addition to all the band camp supplies listed on the Band Camp Flyer, all band members should also purchase a dot book or three-ring binder.  A dot book is a small, pocket-sized notebook that you can write down your drill sets in for quick reference on the field. Each student will be receiving their own drill pages, and may put them in protective sleeves in a binder. However, those binders eventually become a burden to carry around the field while you march and play your instrument, even if you use a strap. After you learn the drill, a dot book becomes much more convenient to carry around rather than a large binder. However, section leaders should always have the full drill pages (in protective plastic sleeves) in a binder at all times.

You can purchase a small notebook at any dollar store or office supply store. If you’d like, you can get a customized dot book with predesigned pages from MyDotBook.org. If you own an iPhone or an iPod Touch, there is also an application you can download from the iTunes store called DrillBook. Regardless of what you get, every student should have either their full drill pages or a dot book with them during each rehearsal.
