The Jackson High School Jazz Band is under the direction of Mr. Scott Katona, the new music director of Jackson Liberty High School. Mr. Katona has been working with the Jazz Band for three years. Within that time the Jackson Jazz Band has recieved many prestigious awards, as well as, has become one of the state's finest.

Some of their accomplishments at competitions include receiving superior ratings, best soloist awards and scholarships for various instruments, best trombone section, rhythm section, sax section, and trumpet section. They have placed 1st in the Ocean County Teen Arts Festival for the past three years and proceeded to play at the state level held at The College of NJ. The Jackson Jazz Band has also recieved certificates of excellence and outstanding achievement awards. They also placed in the highest category for sight-reading.

Last season, the Jackson Jazz Band had it's most successful season ever, and was given awards for outstanding trombone and trumpet section, and outstanding soloist awards. They also, for the first time in school history, qualified for the IAJE state finals, where they scored fifth in their division, and sixth in the state of New Jersey.

Other achievements of the Jackson Jazz Band include performing for the 60th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge and a commemorative ceremony for the attack on Pearl Harbor at The Center for World War II Studies. They have also performed at the Starlight Cafe in Florida.
